Long live The Queen!

The Queen is expanding its territory to five days a week.

-

Husband-and-wife super-producers Shona Ferguson and Connie Ferguson’s soapie The Queen (2016- current) is adding a fifth day to its broadcast schedule from Monday 31 July. It will continue the exploits of Harriet Khoza (Connie), who’s trying to keep control over her late hubby Mzi’s ( Treasure Tshabalala) drug empire. It’s no wonder the show keeps fans glued – look at these five crown jewels…

ALL THAT GLITTERS

We’re told that crime doesn’t pay, but you wouldn’t say that looking at Harriet’s glamorous gangster life.” Inside their Joburg palace – complete with pool, squash court and servants’ wing – Harriet’s all-white boudoir is a reference to the white powder that built Khozas’ fortunes: cocaine. From the red soles of her Louboutins to her Bulgari shades, Harriet’s look purrs power.

SELLO-SO-FABULOUS

Viewers who knew Sello Maake KaNcube better as Scandal! (2005- current) villain Lucas are seeing a new side to him as Harriet’s brother Kgosi. He’s no gay cliché. Gentle-voiced Kgosi’s grace, dainty tea sipping and elegance hide a ruthless heart. In episode 1, he had Mzi assassinated for leaving Harriet for their housekeeper Violet (Mbali Nkosi).

STAR-CROSSED

Detective Jerry Maake’s (Shona Ferguson) daughter Amo (Natashe Thahane) and Harriet’s son Kagiso (Loyiso Macdonald) are The Queen’s Romeo and Juliet. When Amo uncovered the bloody truth about the Khozas in October, she chose love over justice. We’ve been breaking our hearts over their tragic love story ever since.

DOLLY COMES TO PLAY

Harriet gliding through her house as if she was born to luxury was undermined when her vulgar BFF Aunt Dolly (Tumi Morake) rocked up in June this year and rolled in her expensive surroundings like a pig in muck. Tumi’s comedy chops make Dolly the gleeful fleck of grit in Harriet’s Louboutins.

QUEEN CONNIE

Finally, The Queen would rule nothing without Connie’s nuanced performance as Harriet – loving mother and ruthless killer. She’s plots a rival’s downfall with a glacial smile in one episode, the next she’s sulking in bed because Kagiso said something mean to her. Seductive and sinister, Harriet is everything!
