Rising pop singer Reneilwe (Amo Chidi) wants to be the best and she’s put a lot of things on hold to get there. She skipped varsity. She put rehearsals ahead of family and friends. And she’s not about to let someone steal her thunder, like on Tuesday 25 July when her fan-turnedbestie Kgaugelo (Lethabo Mashego) is spotted looking like Renei’s on-screen alter ego Electra. “It’s scary! Kgaugelo is dressed like Electra – they look like twins,” says Amo. Stealing Renei’s style isn’t the only thing Kgaugelo wants: she has dreams of being a popstar too!

Reneilwe’s friend Mampho (Itumeleng Bokaba) warns Renei on Wednesday 26 July that Kgaugelo’s obsessive tendencies are a problem, but “Reneilwe refuses to hear anything bad about Kgaugelo. She thinks that Mampho is jealous of their bond and Renei stops Mampho mid-sentence,” says Amo. Renei has always wanted to connect with someone who shares her interests, like music and partying. “But “Kgaugelo takes it too far. She starts a fake account on social media pretending to be Reneilwe. It’s crazy – and Reneilwe is oblivious to it,” says Amo.

GET A GRIP

Kgaugelo hasn’t missed a beat with her imitation of Reneilwe. She moves like her, talks like her… and on Friday 28 July she pretends to be Renei when fans mistake Kgaugelo for the popstar at Renei’s favourite restaurant. The Real Reneilwe realises what’s going when her fans start posting photos with “her” online and Amo says that “she’s shocked! She didn’t see it coming. She was niave and can’t believe that Mampho was right about this girl!” Renei wants to expose Kgaugelo with a radio interview on Monday 31 July, but even that isn’t safe from the copycat. “Kgaugelo hijacks the show and rants about how Reneilwe is an irresponsible drunk and that she is a better singer than Renei,” says Amo. The real popstar is embarrassed by her “friend’s” outburst and storms out of the radio station with two goals. Save what’s left of her image and stop Kgaugelo from stealing her career!
