Cosmo Diale (Ronnie Nyakale) has a reputation around Alexandra township: he’s not to be messed with. And while his patience is tested by his sister Lucy (Manaka Ranaka) and the customers at their family restaurant business S’khaftin Chicken, as well as his gangster buddy Gadaffi ( Vuyo Dabula), “That [life] is not what Cosmo is all about,” laughs Ronnie. In fact, it seems that Cosmo wants to get out of the crime world. On Thursday 3 August, he’s put on the spot by Gadaffi and told to murder “a problem”. “But he refuses,” explains the actor. “Gadaffi is furious and grabs the gun. Cosmo isn’t a killer like Gadaffi.” Ronnie adds that his character will most certainly “handle” a problem if he’s asked to, but blood on his hands is something he isn’t willing to do.

MIND OVER MATTER

Unlike Gadaffi, Cosmo was raised by a strict mom and Gog’ Flo (Ivy Nkutha) expects only good things from her children, including wild- child Lucy. Gog’ Flo turns a bit of a blind eye to Cosmo’s dealings – she’s aware that he isn’t the most honest of men but she knows that he’s not a killer or drug dealer. Gog’ Flo is beside herself on Friday 4 August when she finds Lucy’s boyfriend Mrekza (Kope Makgae) walking around her house in his underwear, but her pleas to “fix this” are ignored by Cosmo. “She doesn’t understand why Mrekza is so comfortable in their house like this, but Cosmo just chases Mrekza out – nothing more. He’s got bigger fish to fry right now,” says Ronnie.

Cosmo’s got himself involved in a murder mess that could send him and his friend Gadaffi to jail. And Cosmo didn’t even do the deed – it was Moroka businessman Tau (Rapulana Seiphe- mo) and Gadaffi who pulled the trigger in 2015. They’ve all been on edge since mid-July when feisty Thabi (Motsoaledi Setumo) showed up. She’s searching for her missing brother and Tau’s rival Jack ( Vusi Kunene) is putting ideas in her head. Jack wants Tau gone – and if Thabi finds out that Tau killed her brother, it will be the end of him. “Cosmo doesn’t want to be dragged into this mess but he has to help his friend Gadaffi,” says Ronnie. “It’s not to help Tau – no one wants to be associated with him right now. This is purely to help Gadaffi.”

KNOCK, KNOCK

The police pile pressure on Cosmo’s plans when they knock on Tau’s door on Wednesday 9 August with a search warrant. “It’s going to be a long ride,” explains Ronnie. “But Cosmo is no fool and he’s great at extracting info from people. He even makes a break-through [on Friday 11 August].” But it’s not good news for Gadaffi – he’s in even more trouble than he thought. “But he has Cosmo at his side and while he won’t kill for Gadaffi, Cosmo won’t let his friend go to prison. He will ‘ take care’ of things,” teases Ronnie.
