America’s Got Talent has something old (Simon), something new (Tyra) and a whole bunch of borrowed acts…
America’s Got Talent Season 12 Weekdays (from Monday 28 August) M-Net (*101) 18:30
America’s Got Talent (2006- current) returns with baldie Howie Mandel, Spice Girl Mel B, model mom Heidi Klum and Mr Nasty Simon Cowell judging America’s crazy and crazy talented people, along with a brandnew host – America’s Next Top Model (2003- current) creator and judge Tyra Banks. This is the first time in 12 seasons that America’s Got Talent has had a female host. Busy Tyra, who was working on her two series simultaneously, joked, “Maybe I’ll have my models do crazy stuff! I want to see them do a backflip while juggling and yodelling.” “Smize, y’all” – Tyra’s madeup word for reminding models to smile just with their eyes!
With the never-ending number of reality talent shows on TV, it would be surprising if people weren’t taking another shot at fame. And we’re not just talking about the host and judges. While pretty much nobody in SA will recognise dancer Canion Shijirbat as the runner-up on Mongolia’s Got Talent season 2 (2016), you’ll recognise singing ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer and child band Pelican 212 from Steve Harvey’s show Little Big Shots (2016 and 2017), rollerskating siblings Billy and Emily England from Britain’s Got Talent season 9 (2015) and Ukrainian dance crew Light Balance from Britain’s Got Talent season 8 (2014) and loads more who’re trying their luck on this show.
But it’s not just a bunch of oldies in the new season. They’ll be dazzling viewers with fresh new talent like Jokgu, the keyboard-playing chicken (episode 1). Don’t let her shaky start fool you – she has the chops(sticks). And magician Will Tsai has created an act specifically for the show (also in episode 1) that will send viewers racing to the internet to find out how it’s done.
