Domestic dispute

Gizara’s wives go to war when Sara blames Hangwani for poisoning their husband.

-

Thathe comes to a grinding halt on Wednesday 11 October when the chief’s head advisor Gizara (David Sebe) falls ill. “It’s a mystery and no one knows what’s wrong with him. Gizara’s illness takes a toll on everyone,” says David. While Gizara’s second wife Hangwani (Constance Sibiya) and his stepdaughter Rendani (Innocentia Makapaila) try to help him on Thursday 12 October, it might be in vain. “It’s like a dark cloud is floating in their house. It’s because they’ve neglected something that should’ve been fixed a long time ago,” says David.

FINAL STRETCH

The blame game shifts to Hangwani on Friday 13 October when Gizara’s health takes a nosedive. The superstitious community, led by Gizara’s first wife Sara (Christinah Ratshievhe), think that “modern woman” Hangwani has poi-soned him and David says that “the family want answers to Gizara’s strange illness. The only thing that makes sense to them is that his wife has bewitched him”. An outraged Hangwani hits out at rumours on Tuesday 17 October that she is trying to kill her hubby because she knows what it’s like to lose a lover and partner. She has built a home with Gizara and her daughter Rendani and she doesn’t want to feel the pain of losing a husband again like when she lost Albert (Ndivhuho Mutsila) in July 2014. Even though theirs was arranged, she has come to love Gizara. “The tension in the family is high and the anger isn’t good for anyone in – especially Gizara,” says David.

KEEPING IT CLEAN

Thathe’s traditional healer Mulimisi (Humbulani Tsharani) is summoned to help save Gizara and by Friday 20 October, Gizara is deemed fit to go home. “He should’ve stayed in hospital,” jokes David, “because the wives are fighting over him now. They’re not on good terms at all but they’re excited to have their husband home in one piece. The actor adds that Mulimisi suggests a cleansing ceremony for Hangwani to “get rid” of Albert’s spirit before she continues her marriage with Gizara and to make amends with Sara. The ladies put their differences aside on Monday 23 October for Gizara’s sake and David says that “it [Gizara’s health woes] was a rollercoaster ride for everyone. It’s a great thing that the wives finally buried the hatchet”. That doesn’t mean Sara and Hangwani will be friends forever…
