Price Of Fame

With big money comes big trouble in telenovella Price Of Fame.

-

Fans of music dramas like Empire (2015- current) and Nashville (2012current) and sing-song film series High School Musical (2006-2008) should be tuning in for the new Telemundo telenovela Price Of Fame (2016-2017), which airs from Monday 16 October. The 76-episode Spanish soapie promises drama, action, romance and – a first for Telemundo – music.

FADE TO BLACK

Pop star Julio César Solar (Daniel Elbittar) basks in the money and fame along with his music-producer brother Mateo Solar (Alberto Guerra). However, Julio is abruptly shot dead in episode 2 and Mateo is devastated by his brother’s death and he’s determined to find the murderers. “This is a very unusual show. I don’t think there are many on TV like this,” says Alberto. “We have great musicians

in every genre [pop, urban and even Regional Mexican], and there is a human side. We tell a story, showing the struggle, the pain and the heartbreak of fame.”

LOVE & PAIN

Julio’s empire is under threat from a new rival – the seemingly untouchable popstar Manara Matamoros (María León). She is managed by her family who are linked to trafficking drugs, arms and people. Family head Amado Matamoros (Juan Pablo Medina) wants Manara to top the charts but realises that he can’t do it alone, so he recruits Mateo to turn Manara into a success. Mateo agrees to help Manara but soon regrets his decision when he begins to suspect that Amado had something to do with Julio’s death. “He likes to party, go out with a lot of women. He’s living large, but then – not to give away too many spoilers – he finds himself in the middle of a large change in his life,” adds Alberto. Furthermore, Mateo falls for Manara, who he later finds out is Amado’s half-sister.

THE COMPETITION

Mateo isn’t the only one falling for Manara – hot-shot muso Rafael Zabala (Alejandro de la Madrid) is putting the moves on her too. Rafael has music in his blood – his dad Ernesto (Fernando Carrera) was one of Mexico’s greatest musicians and built the music label that Rafael now runs. Rafael wants to continue Ernesto’s legacy but he also wants Manara to be his wife – and he won’t stop badgering the sultry popstar until she says, “I do.”
