Moving forward

Jess is no longer the new girl but she’s everyone’s favourite girl.

Coming into adulthood isn’t easy and the five 30-somethings on sitcom New Girl (2011- current) know all about the challenges of life. The popularity of the series has prompted creator Liz Meriwether to produce the final seventh season herself, consisting of a much-shorter eight episodes. As Liz teases, “The comedy will have major milestones for all the main characters… including a big one in the series finale.”

According to reports ahead of the season première, there will be a time jump of three years from season 6. And the Nick-Jess (Jake Johnson and Zooey Deschanel) relationship gets a boost too as co-showrunner Brett Baer reveals: “We have options in a potential season 7 to keep some level of excitement in that relationship. We have been talking about creative solutions to that Nick Jess dynamic and how to move forward in a way that wouldn’t just be like a onedirectional approach.”

As for creative solutions, here are 4 things that we definitely want to see happen on the final season:

With Reagan (Megan Fox) out of the way, we’d love to see Nick and Jess ride off into the sunset. There was a tear-jerking moment in the season 6 finale when newly married Schmidt (Max Greenfield) convinced his loft-mate Nick to stop wasting time and go get his girl. And married couple Schmidt and Cece (Hannah Simone) are expecting a child. Mazeltov! With the time jump, Cece and Schmidt probably have their hands full with their now tiny toddler. Will the sensitive and kind Winston (Lamorne Morris) ever be able to face his hard past and come to terms with his father who walked out on him? We hope he gets closure. And what’s New Girl without a musical? A bonus would be guest cameos, like Coach (Damon Wayans Jr) who left in season 5. Coach was the original loft member who played a huge part in consoling Jess after her devastating break-up in season 1.
