Rendani isn’t prepared to play wife number two for Matodzi.

Matodzi (Quibell Ramantswana) has had hearts in his eyes for Rendani (Innocentia Makapila) since meeting her in November 2017 and he wants to tie the knot. But being a prince, his family the Ramashias have found a wife for him on Wednesday 3 January. Not wanting to lose Rendani, Matodzi has a plan, but his wannabe bride is oblivious to it all…

RUMOURVILLE

Rumours of a wedding spread through Thathe later on Thursday 4 January and Rendani is excited to learn that the bride is Thendo (Fulufhelo Mugovhani), the younger sister Chief Azwindini’s (Gabriel Temudzani) wife Mpho (Azwimmbavhi Rammbuda). What Rendani doesn’t know is that the groom is the man she loves. “It’s an arranged marriage,” explains Quibell. “Matodzi gets a call from his family to say, ‘Hey, surprise – we’ve found the perfect woman for you. And she is a royal’,” explains Quibell. “Matodzi is not impressed!”

TROUBLE IN PARADISE

When news of “the lucky guy” reaches Rendani on Tuesday 9 January, she confronts royal wife Mpho who “tells her that this is a tradition,” explains Quibell. Matodzi is still reeling from the news that he’s been promised to someone he doesn’t love when he’s found someone he could spend his life with. “Rendani is his soulmate,” says Quibell. “They have so much in common that there can’t be another woman for him. But tradition dictates arranged marriages and Matodzi has to accept his family’s wishes.” But tradition says that polygamy is acceptable and Matodzi proposes to Rendani too on Friday 12 January. “This is a proposal that she didn’t expect at all,” confesses Innocentia. “She always thought that she would be his only wife and she is shocked. The actress adds that Rendani knows “it’s normal in Venda culture for a man to have more than one wife, but she didn’t expect not to be first in line”.

ALL MINE

Rendani isn’t up for this tradition and the outspoken youngster lets people know. “It’s custom and she must think about it because she doesn’t want to lose Matodzi. But she doesn’t want to share him and Rendani decides against it,” says Innocentia. And the decision will have an effect on their relationship. “If Matodzi can’t man up and make Rendani first wife, then there is no future for them,” warns Innocentia. Unless Matodzi can make a royal plan…

Rendani is all smiles until she finds out that she is going to be wife #2. Matodzi thinks that Rendani will agree to his marriage idea.
