Stretching the truth

Fana tries to stop Nolwazi’s plan to hand herself over for killing Patrick because he’s implicated!

Fana reaches Nolwazi before she can confess to killing Patrick. Weekdays SABC1 (*191) 20:00

Fana’s (Duma Mnqobi) fate hangs in the balance on Wednesday 3 January and his ex- girlfriend Nolwazi ( Thando Thabethe) has the power to tip the scales either way. He thought that coming clean to her on Tuesday 2 January about his involvement with covering up the hit-and- run would stop her from digging into Patrick’s [the role wasn’t cast] death in mid-July 2017, but it’s made the situation worse. Nolwazi can’t live with herself knowing that someone died because she was driving drunk. “Nolwazi runs to the police station [on Wednesday 3 January] to hand herself in,” explains Duma. “She is nervous about her decision to tell the cops that she drove over Patrick. Unlike Fana, she can’t roll over and pretend like it never happened.”

JUST IN TIME

Fana arrives at the police station to find Nolwazi still waiting to confess – and he’s desperate to talk her out of admitting guilt. “He settles Nolwazi Fana is desperate for Nolwazi to continue lying with him. down and makes her realise that he will be charged as an accomplice for hiding the murder,” says Duma. “Fana leaves her at the station to make up her mind, hoping that she’ll follow in his footsteps and keep quiet.”

And it seems that Fana’s heart-felt begging has paid off because Nolwazi quietly leaves the police station and plans to skip town on Monday 8 January. She would rather start afresh in another city where no one knows her than lie to her loved ones. “And Fana is making sure that Nolwazi keeps the secret to herself,” reveals Duma, whose character will have more to lose if Patrick’s “murder” becomes public knowledge. For starters, Fana is dating Patrick’s widow Ntombi (Busisiwe Mambi) and he will also lose his lawyer’s licence if Nolwazi exposes his involvement. “Deep down, Fana is a good guy and he likes the idea of playing happy family with Ntombi, although being with her means that he has to act like he doesn’t know anything about her late husband’s death. He enjoys her company and doesn’t want their relationship to end,” says Duma. Fana’s dreams inch closer to reality later on Monday 8 January when he discovers that Nolwazi is gone, leaving Patrick’s murder as unsolved case and Fana free to be with Ntombi.

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY

Like Nolwazi, Fana is in search of a new chapter in his life and he asks Ntombi to join him on a business trip to KwaZulu- Natal on Thursday 11 January, secretly trying to get her as far away from the “scene of the crime” as soon as possible. Despite Ntombi being in love with Fana, she is still mourning Patrick’s death and she wants to find his killer, whether Fana likes it or not. “He has done everything in his power to stop her from digging into Patrick’s death. He believes that the trip will help Ntombi forget about it,” reasons Duma. And he’s willing to use more tricks to get her off the trail on Tuesday 16 January – Fana tells Ntombi that he is in love with her. “He isn’t lying,” laughs Duma. “He is so used to living a lie that it all seems like a reality to him. He thinks that if Ntombi is happy with him, she’ll totally forget about Patrick. Then again, who forgets the person they were married to?”
