Rhafiek confesses his feelings to Carmen and it surprises her. Mon-Thu kykNET (*144) 18:30

Rhafiek and Nuraan’s (Irshaad Ally and Liezel Swartz) arranged marriage is going ahead despite his feelings for his colleague Carmen (Desiré Gardner). Nuraan knows all about her fiancé and Carmen and she is making sure that they’re kept apart from Wednesday 3 January when she boots Carmen from her bridal party.

FLEEING FOR HER LIFE

“Nuraan makes it clear to Carmen that she has no place in Rhafiek’s life,” says Desiré. “The tension becomes unbearable [on Wednesday 3 January] and Carmen thinks that it would be best for everyone if she left Ruiterbosch.” Rhafiek finds out about her plan and manages to stop Carmen just in time to reveal how deep his feelings for her are. “He plays open cards,” adds Desiré. “He tells her that he wants to leave Nuraan and give their relationship a chance and not be left with regrets.”

A NEW BEGINNING

With that out the way, Rhafiek readies himself for worse on Thursday 4 January: telling his parents AB Nuraan is furious and embarrassed at the same time. and Mymoena (Cedwyn Joel and Jill Levenberg). “They’re stunned,” explains Irshaad. “They have never forced him to do something against his will, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t disappointed!” Rhafiek’s parents ask him to reconsider later on Thursday 4 January but he’s standing firm on Monday 8 January.

THE TOWN’S FOOLS

The situation changes on Thursday 11 January and Rhafiek confronts his parents about their attitude towards Carmen. “Their name has been dragged through the mud by their son and AB isn’t impressed,” explains Cedwyn. “A person can’t just change your feelings for someone and your views overnight and I think that it’s going to take AB and his wife some time to accept what Rhafiek has done.”

AB extends an olive branch to Carmen on Monday 15 January at a family dinner. He and Mymoena are forced to see Carmen in a different light to what they’re used to because they want to see their son happy, but it’s not with the woman they had chosen. Nuraan meanwhile has gone into hiding. Will Rhafiek ever try to make good with her or will he be selfish and think only of his own happiness?
