Are you simply reading the script? Not at all. When I joined the team in September 2014, I did a lot of content myself. I still have a big hand in the behindthe-scenes work, like the research and writing scripts and updating content, but I have a team I work with too. What’s tougher: being a professional sportsman or working in TV? [Laughs] The two have their unique challenges. Like in soccer, a mistake can end with a red card or a goal against you. With TV, you can mess things up – and they’re both live, so there’s no space for errors. Soccer is normally played late afternoon or evening, but Sunrise is at, well, sunrise. It wasn’t that difficult to adjust to my new routine as a whole – the 3AM wake-up took getting used to though. Sport as a job is very structured – you know when you’re training, when you’re in the gym, when you’re playing. Working in broadcasting has its own schedule because you have hair and make-up, research, rehearsals and constant updates. How does social media affect your work? It makes news instant. Back before the internet, you had to wait for a soccer transfer to be announced in the papers, for example. Now the teams put it on their social media sites and it’s available instantly. That means we need to stay in touch with social media almost 24/ 7.
