Ex- con turned cleaner and perpetual loser Stokkies ( Wayne van Rooyen) is flying high! On Thursday 1 February, he is declared the Comboa scheme’s Agent Of The Month. “Stokkies has always dreamed of this level of success. Comboa is a dream come true. Being able to buy a car and start making proper plans for his future, it’s the position he has always wanted to be in – a self-sufficient man!” says Wayne. There’s even more celebration on Friday 2 February when Stokkies reinvests his Comboa payout in the scheme. Stokkies is an inspiration to his recruited co-workers whose only dream of wealth has been a distant hope of winning the lottery. For the first time, their financial worries are starting to lift from their shoulders and the relief is like a drug…
PERFECT PITCH
Viewers may share several characters’ reservations as to whether Comboa is a legitimate business and that Stokkies is on the level, but Wayne reveals that “when Stokkies starts to experience real success with Comboa, he sees Comboa as the Truth, the Light and the Way. Comboa stands for Community Building One Another and Stokkies truly believes that he is helping people by recruiting them. His sincerity and investment in Comboa plays a huge factor in recruiting people.” Because he knows intimately what it’s like to live their never- ending struggle, he’s become the perfect salesman. “Stokkies understands his colleagues and their situation,” says Wayne. “Stokkies understands that people have struggles. The cost of living is high and people are under-paid. For a lot of those people (including himself), money will make their problems disappear.”

So when Stokkies’ success brings another chancer of note Ndu (Andile Sithole) sniffing around on Tuesday 13 February, for once Stokkies isn’t keen to jump onboard his latest get-rich-quick schemes [we’ve been sworn to secrecy about it]. He wouldn’t want to do anything dodgy! “As an ex- convict, the last thing that Stokkies wants is to get involved. There are too many negative connotations,” says Wayne. But the actor has a warning for his character: “Some people can’t handle success. Once it comes, they find it extremely difficult to hold onto…”
