Niki the nutter

There’s a simple explanation for Nikiwe’s odd new behaviour, but it’s also the very last thing she’d think of.

“Nikiwe has been through a lot in the past year. At first, she thinks it [feeling strange] is just her body sending warning signs from stress,” explains Linda Sokhulu. Nikiwe’s father Lincoln (Lindani Nkosi) went to prison in March 2017 for murder, her ex-fiancé Gabriel (Aubrey Poo) beat her in July and Nikiwe also had to take over the family business Sibeko Gold. “At the time [from Tuesday 6 February], she doesn’t consider that she’s being drugged. She doesn’t even know that Nina (Khabonina Qubeka) wants revenge for Nikiwe kicking Nina out of Sibeko Gold and treating her like trash in 2017.” But to everyone else, Nikiwe is a mad hatter.

STRESS TEST

She has an uneasy feeling on Friday 2 February that she’s being followed, “But it isn’t Gabriel stalking her. She has a restraining order against him. But it could be Benjamin (Arno Marais), who has played the con- cerned bestie since Gabriel returned in November 2017,” says Linda. Nikiwe gives Ben the cold shoulder on Monday 5 February and tries to figure out if he is stalking her. She doesn’t even notice how groggy she feels that day, which is a problem, says Linda. A stalker and a change in her body is no co-incidence but Nikiwe doesn’t put two and two together – “This is just from all the stress. She doesn’t think for a second that the two are related,” adds Linda.

SEEING ISN’T BELIEVING

Nikiwe is going to be whistling a different tune come Thursday 8 and Friday 9 February. She sleepwalks and calls out for her ex-lover Frank (Kevin Smith), who died in 2015. It gets stranger on Monday 12 February when “Nikiwe is told that she almost jumped over the balcony calling for Frank. She doesn’t understand why this is happening to her,” says Linda. If only she knew who was watching her…
