The Kiriakis clan throw a bash at the mansion on Friday 2 February to welcome back Daniel’s (Shawn Christian) daughter Melanie (Molly Burnett). But even sweet grandma Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) suspects that former nurse Melanie isn’t home to settle down and raise puppies. She’s up to something and has a big bag of cash and secret angry phonecalls to prove it. “Melanie may have impulsively made a little mistake. Okay, a big mistake. She needs to get out of Europe ASAP,” laughs Molly.

PARTY GIRL PROBLEMS

When we met schoolgirl Melanie (in July 2011 in SA), she had a blog named Premier Party Girl, she was ripping off older men for cash, as well as stealing her schoolmates’ jewellery. Melanie may have calmed down a bit, but she has never been short of drama. She left Salem in 2015 to live with her mom in Europe after a kidnapping exposed Gabi’s (Camila Banus) plot to get an obsessive stalker to split up her and Chad (then Casey Deidrick). It turns out on Wednesday 7 February that while Melanie raked in $70 000 (R860 000) in a European casino, she wasn’t smart enough to cover her cardcounting tracks and two casino security agents have followed her. “Melanie has grown but a person doesn’t change too much. Maggie hasn’t been there to smack her around,” admits Molly.

CLAWS OUT

And once Melanie’s old BFF Brady (Eric Martsolf) gets her up to speed on Salem’s hottest gossip on Thursday 8 February, Salem’s other bad girls – especially Brady’s ex-wife Theresa (Jen Lilley) – had better look out. It’s going to get physical on Friday 9 February, says Molly. “Just wait ’til you see what goes down when they meet!” Calling Theresa “a little money- grubbing, lying cokehead” to her face is just the start. But it’s not all claws – Molly hints at a new “friendship”: “Melanie gets Nicole (Arianne Zucker). It’s the same kind of troubled upbringing, trying to do the right thing and getting stuck doing something wrong.”
