Television treasure

They’re all fit, fabulous and famous, but which SA celeb will help their civilian contestant scoop that Island Of Treasure title?

-

Tropika Island Of Treasure Season 8 Mondays (from 5 February) SABC3 (*193) 19:30

The first R1 million challenge is easy: say bye-bye Seychelles and hello Maldives. Then it’s time to say hi to new Tropika Island Of Treasure (2012- current) host Katlego Maboe (from lifestyle show Expresso, 2010current). We’ll miss season 7 host Minnie Dlamini and game master Jonathan Boynton-Lee, but Katlego will ease us into the new season by also singing the theme tune Smooth Fame. Our final challenge is getting to know the new celebrity contestants – we asked the seven to give their best “tiger roar” about why they will be the one to beat this season.

TUMI VOSTER

I’m famous for: hosting TV shows since I was 15 on YO.TV (2006-current). Hear me roar! The attributes I bring to the island are a positive attitude and having fun. I don’t want to take things too seriously even though we are competing for R1 million. I’m a team player and will definitely bring my fun spirit to the Maldives.

BRENDAN PEYPER

I’m famous for: my singing voice, obviously [as a South African Music Awardsnominated singer]! And my active lifestyle campaign #noexcuses. Hear me roar! My exercise and fitness is really important to me and I’ll be using this to my advantage in the physical challenges. And I will keep calm when there is something that I haven’t done before and do the best I can.

KHANYA MKANGISA

I’m famous for: playing Aphiwe on Isidingo (1998-current, see p20) since 2014 and hosting lifestyle show Selimathunzi (1992-current) since 2015. Hear me roar! I never give up without a fight! I have a great work ethic and being petite is an advantage because people don’t see you as a threat. You know the saying about dynamite…

NAY MAPS

I’m famous for: playing Mxolisi Xulu on Uzalo since day one (2015current, see more on p12 and 13).

Hear me roar! TIOT8 is about pleasure, fun and adventure! So I will be bringing a whole lot of fun and I will be ready for adventure. I think that more people will be focused on the physical strength and mental strength. I will be all about inner strength, endurance and most importantly, team work. Team work makes the Dream Work. Let the games begin!

KARABO MOGANE

I’m famous for: winning Idols SA (2002-current) season 11 in 2015. Hear me roar! I am quick on my feet, extremely competitive, hard-working and I believe that I have what it takes to win this competition. I have also taken some swimming lessons to help me get ready for the island. I just hope that I’m paired with someone who shares the same vision.

SBAHLE MPISANE

I’m famous for: being Durban’s lifestyle motivator The Fitness Bunnie. Hear me roar! I’ve been preparing for this moment for a while now. I will be coming onboard with a clear vision of a winner. My mission is to win and my state of mind is to win. I’ll be focusing on my strengths and I definitely will not be discouraged by my weaknesses. My leadership skills, great communication skills and my self-confidence are key for staying away from the red seat.

MELINDA BAM

I’m famous for: being Miss SA 2011 and my swimwear line Bambshell. Hear me roar! I’ve been training really hard for this show and will be bringing my A-game! I’m physically fit and relatively strong, plus I’m not afraid of a challenge. I am head-strong in terms of endurance, and when things get tough, I can push through to get to the top. I’m looking forward to being challenged in different ways!
