Journalist Serena Mason (Melissa Archer) arrives in Salem today and she’s looking for more than a hot story about medical research: she’s also after a hot man – one Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan). Serena tells Eric on Thursday 8 February that she chose her current story so that she could move to his hometown. Turns out they had a steamy relationship while Eric worked in the Congo, before he dumped her to become a priest. “There was a lot of adrenalin flowing for them in Africa, a real fight-or-flight situation, and it drew them into a very close relationship,” says 38-year-old Melissa. Greg adds, “Being in the same field of expertise with journalism and news, they were always fighting over the feature story. It was passionate.” Flashbacks are all this couple will get for a while though. “I don’t think they hit the sheets tomorrow. He just came from abstinence and then he is dealing with the trauma of what happened to him at the hands of Kristen (Eileen Davidson) [that she drugged and raped him in July 2016]. There will be a lot of slow moments rather than jumping right into it, because it has to be something that Eric is comfortable with,” explains Melissa.
But Serena didn’t just bounce back from being dumped for the church and she fell into bad company after their break-up. “Things happened that she has to deal with currently that are questionable, so some of her choices aren’t the most upfront choices,” warns Melissa.
