What is going on in your favourite actor’s head?
7de Laan’s (2000- current) Bonita (Hildegardt Whites) is a complicated character. You either love her or you hate her, and while she is currently causing trouble in Hillside (read more on p27), Hildegardt is the polar opposite. Instead, the actress is happier sitting in front of her TV. And judging by these Quickfire answers, she’s almost as fanatical about the smallscreen as tvplus readers.
What was the first TV show you acted out with friends? I remember it like it was yesterday – it was teen action show Die Swart Kat (1986). I was crazy about it! Who was your first TV crush? Gavin van den Berg in Ballade Vir ’n Enkeling (1987-1993). What did you do when an “adult” moment came on while were watching TV with family? Whenever a scene like “that” came on, I’d blush blood-red and squeeze my eyes shut until it was finished. What have you wanted ever since you saw it on TV? I’ve always wanted one of those slimming belts like the Sweat Slim Belt or the Vibro Shape Belt. The people in the adverts always make it seem so easy and that you’ll have a tiny waist the next day. Whose TV wardrobe do you want? I’m crazy about Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) closet in Sex And The City (1998-2004). She’s always stylish and always looked stunning and fashionforward. Nowadays it would definitely be Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) from The Fixer (2012- current). Her sense of style is classic and she makes it look easy. Whose TV house would you love to live in? Definitely Carry Bradshaw again! But in the 2008 movie Sex In The City. And the Welman family’s mansion in 7de Laan – they have the most beautiful furniture. What shows are you fanatical about now? Anything from [creator, writer and producer] Shonda Rhimes, like Grey’s Anatomy (2005- current), The Fixer and How To Get Away With Murder (2014-current). If you worked behind the scenes, which job would you want and why? The wardrobe department for sure. I’m crazy about fashion and clothes and I’ve always enjoyed learning how they dress the different characters, like on 7de Laan. What is one of your favourite plot twists from a show? There are so many! If I had to single one out, it would be in How To Get Away With Murder in season 1 (2015) when they set Annalise Keating’s ( Viola Davis) house on fire and the character in it burnt to death – and it was one of the main characters! I didn’t expect that. Which character is your favourite hero and why? Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) from Grey’s Anatomy. She has been through so many trials and tribulations and it’s only made her stronger. It shows you just how strong us women are. Nothing can keep us down. What is your nightmare scenario while filming? Oversleeping and missing the call time and being late for everything. The worst would be arriving on set and finding out that Bonita has been recast and no one let me know. And if you could play any character on any show, who and why? Olivia Pope on The Fixer – she’s a powerhouse and she doesn’t let anyone push her around. And like I mentioned earlier, I’m mad about her wardrobe and how she makes everything work and look so effortless. So Olivia, please.
