Rhafiek pops the question but Carmen is biting her tongue.

The more committed that Rhafiek (Irshaad Ally) gets to his girlfriend Carmen (Desiré Gardner), the more his mom Mymoena (Jill Levenberg) panics. She fears that he’s making a mistake, especially since he turned his nose up at the marriage she helped arrange in late December 2017 to Nuraan (Liezel Swartz). Best she steer clear of her son on Thursday 1 March, because her husband AB (Cedwyn Joel) spills the beans – Rhafiek has spoken to him about proposing to Carmen. “Mymoena is inconsolable and doesn’t understand why her son would do this and not consult her,” explains Jill. But that doesn’t mean Carmen is going to say yes…
YOU SHALL NOT PASS
Carmen struggles to give Rhafiek an answer after he presents her with a ring on Thursday 1 March. “There are a lot of factors to consider,” explains Desiré “They are from different cultural and religious backgrounds. Getting married is serious business and Carmen doesn’t want to make a mistake and mess up both their lives,” adds the actress. Instead, they set boundaries while they get to know each other better, starting on Thursday 8 March that there won’t be sleepovers. But that’s easier said than done, teases Desiré. “You know how it goes with people who are in love – they can’t keep their hands off each other.” The couple try cool things off by going to a games night with friends that same night, only to land up in a fight. “Typical, isn’t it?” giggles Desiré.
FREE SPIRIT
Frustrated at their bickering, Carmen tries figure out how to fix things with Rhafiek on Tuesday 13 March, only for another problem to walk in: her friend Ciske (Amalia Uys). Ciske is shocked to see that free-spirit Carmen has a regular job and a steady boyfriend. Desiré reveals that Ciske’s questioning if “this life” is really what Carmen wants gets her thinking. “She thinks that maybe it’s another phase she’s going through,” says the actress. And that’s when Carmen’s eyes widen as she asks herself: is a life in Ruiterbosch really the right thing for her?
