The Amazing Race Season 25 Wednesdays SABC3 (*193) 19:30
After a six-month delay, season 25 of The Amazing Race (2001- current) has arrived on SABC3 and we are already three episodes in by Wednesday 28 February, with the reality show finding a new broadcast night thanks to an already full Monday lineup. “This show doesn’t sit still,” warns long-time host Phil Keoghan. “These guys do 12 episodes in 21 days – that’s around the globe in three weeks – with mental and physical challenges thrown in their paths! It’s crazy!”
But it wasn’t just Phil and the Racers who were on the move – the 11 teams this season were given social media hashtag names so that audiences and the public could tag them online during filming and when the season aired in the US in 2014. “The world isn’t the way it was when we first started [the show]. People weren’t tweeting and Instagramming. Now they are shooting videos of us and firing it online in real time, so we embraced social media for this season,” adds tech-savvy Phil. Season 25 also marks the introduction of The Save “prize” that allows the team that arrives at the episode 1 finish point first to save themselves from elimination anytime until episode 9 (11 April). Phil describes it as “the most powerful Amazing Race prize ever” because it could help one team stay win the $1 million (R12 million) cash grand prize.
