Mapula and Melusi come clean about their money matters.
Mapula (Mapula Mafole) spills her sad secret to her boyfriend Melusi (Maxx Moticoe) on Thursday 15 March: she’s dirt poor. Because she’s always at businessman Kop’s (Setlhabi Taunyane) yard, Melusi assumed that she is Kop’s daughter, not knowing that she is an orphan taking care of her cousins Dumisani and Dineo (Siyabonga Mtshali and Bongi Dlamini). People look down on her family because they’re poverty stricken and she was scared that Melusi would do the same if he knew the truth, explains Mapula the actress. “She wants Melusi to like her and she’s terrified that he’ll dump her, but that doesn’t stop her.” Although Melusi is surprised that she lied to him, he appreciates her honesty later that Thursday. And to Mapula’s surprise, she still has a boyfriend because Melusi isn’t being totally honest with her…
LOOK AT THE LOVERS
To celebrate their commitment, they do a little date night on Tuesday 20 March and “Melusi promises her a great time! He takes her to a fancy restaurant and it’s what Mapula dreams of,” says the actress. Mapula wants to impress her beau and wears her Sunday best. She isn’t used to men treating her well, which put her off dating and she’s had her fair share of bad encounters, like in 2015 when she was almost raped. “But Melusi is different. He treats her well and makes her feel special. It’s new to her and it almost seems too good to be true,” hints actress Mapula. But she has a nagging suspicion about things…
LIAR LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE
Mapula asks Melusi about his childhood and family life on Wednesday 21 March and “she realises that despite his ‘nor-mal- guy’ look, he’s from the wealthy side of town,” says the actress. Mapula now feels added pressure to prove that while she is poor, she is still worthy of being Melusi’s girl. “He is a nice guy and tries to tell her that their relation-ship isn’t about money or lack thereof. They’re in love and won’t let their social standing interfere, no matter what anyone says,” adds Mapula defiantly.
