Last season introduced RuPaul’s Drag Race’s (2009-current) 100th queen and the “bigger, better” theme continues in season 9. Fans are getting pop superstar Lady Gaga as a guest judge, the show’s first outand-proud transgender contestant in Peppermint, over-the-top make-up from Nina Bo’Nina Brown, the jaw-dropping “maskgate” scandal, a rant that rivals Shangela’s Sugardaddy from season 3 (2011) and the ultimate shade thrown on Miss Congeniality in a claws-out season reunion episode. Here are the five must-see episodes… phew!
Episode 1 (6 April) Ronnie from New Jersey walks into the workroom as a Gaga impersonator but then the queens realise that it’s the real-deal Lady Gaga! Episode 3 (13 April) A pageant queen breaks the mould with an inventive performance that prompts an epic rant about the judges’ favouritism, but we’ll have to wait until the reunion episode to see all the drama unfold. Episode 9 (4 May) Two queens nail their TV audition challenge as a pair of ’70scrime-fighting Fashion Police Queens. Episode 10 (4 May) The very manly crew behind the cameras are given a headto-toe drag makeover – you’re not going to believe the outrageous personalities that come out once the sequins, lippy and wigs are on! Episode 13 (18 May) This is it – the season-ending reunion episode where a queen’s “sweetheart” image is torn down to expose the viciously ambitious truth. Capital D Drama!
