Ellen’s Game Of Games

-

Season 1 M-Net Dec 15:55/Sat (*101) 16:45 Reality Ellen DeGeneres is the reigning queen of family talkshows thanks to her multiaward-winning Ellen DeGeneres Show (2003-current; weekdays on Vuzu, *116 at 17:00). And now she’s taking over gameshows with her reality series Ellen’s Game Of Games (2017-current). So what’s it all about? “Lots of fun, lots of prizes and most importantly, lots of laughs!” says the 60-year-old.

If you’re a fan of Ellen’s talkshow, you’ll know all about the ridiculous and light-hearted games she plays with her celeb guests. It’s a little different on the new Game Of Games because there are no celebrities and there is a grand cash prize of $100 000 (R1.3 million) in each of the 13 episodes. “Everything is bigger and scarier,” says Ellen. “Like You Bet Your Wife, where wives are suspended from rafters while their husbands bet on how many questions the ladies will answer correctly. Each time they answer incorrectly, they’re dropped a notch until one falls into a giant lemon meringue or mash potatoes.”

The contestants are chosen from the audience and go through four prelimgames. The winners go through to the semifinal round and the winner of that proceeds to the final to play Hot Hands. There are 13 different games that are rotated between each episode, but the semifinal and final games are always the same. For the semi, it’s Know Or Go – contestants stand on a platform and answer questions. Answer incorrectly and you fall through a chute. For the final game, it’s Hot Hands – the gameplayers have 30 seconds to identify ten celebrities from a specific category, like ’80s music. Hit the buzzer and get all ten correct and you’re taking home $100 000 in a briefcase.
