The King of clubs

Everyone wants a piece of the high life at MaNgcobo’s glam new project Club Genesis, but there’s only one man for the job.

-

KwaMashu is buzzing with news that queen bee MaNgcobo (Dawn Thandeka King) is hiring staff for her flashy new “project” Club Genesis, unaware that it was bought with loot from her cunning Easter heist on Friday 30 March. And viewers can bet their weaves and nails that style superstar GC (Khaya Dladla) is elbowing his way to be in front of that queue. Who else could MaNgcobo possibly choose as her “host with the most”?

THE SALON STAYS

Take a breath though, gossip gals – GC doesn’t want to leave the salon after arriving back at work on Thursday 19 April. “Working at Club Genesis is a second job after hours for extra cash. Besides, he thinks that it’s just relevant because everyone is talking about it,” explains Khaya. Nothing would boost money in the salon’s tills quite like a hot new nightspot that everyone wants to dress up for. They really could use the cash – the books are so bad that Fikile (Nelisa Mchunu) is looking to jump ship to Club Genesis completely before she’s broke.

I’M YOUR MAN

GC is eager for his first interview on Friday 20 April and Khaya believes that the job has both rewards and troubles for his character. “He would be good at it because he is a people person. The job is a dream come true, as MaNgcobo is one of the most relevant ladies in the township. The only hassle might be the fact that GC is a recovering alcoholic and there’s temptation,” says Khaya. And MaNgcobo won’t know what’s hit her when GC sashays in for his interview. “He dresses up and adds colour to his hair, his make-up is on point and he’s ready to wow with his ‘Engrish’,” laughs Khaya.

GC vs FIKILE

But Khaya warns that GC’s sharp tongue could have him going too far with MaNgcobo. “The interview isn’t so great because GC bad-mouths his fellow candidate and friend Fikile to MaNgcobo. He becomes so desperate to impress her by using his perfume during the interview… it doesn’t go so well.” GC doesn’t let that keep him down and on Tuesday 24 April he takes his second shot at it. “He should be part of the club, he sees such potential,” says Khaya. “It’s one- of-a-kind and GC will make sure he is seen at that club come hell or high water!”
