Suicide watch

Bongi uses Lungile’s suicide attempt to fix their marriage.

-

Music executive Lungile (Meshack Mavuso) has lost everything in the last few months: his job, his mistress Lerato (Samkelo Ndlovu) and their baby in a devious baby-switch scheme in March. That pushes him to a dark low on Thursday 12 April when the recovering alcoholic searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle – it worse. “He has a lot on his mind,” explains Meshack honestly. “He thinks that jumping off a building will solve his issues.” Lungile threatens to jump from the balcony at Club Zero11, but one of the staffers recognises him as singer Bongi’s (Thembi Seete) husband and phones her to save him on Friday 13 April. “No one knows him like Bongi. They’re both recovering alcoholics and she is the only person who could get through to Lungile,” explains Meshack. For Bongi, this is the perfect opportunity to rescue her estranged husband and their marriage.

KARMA’S REVENGE

They hit the skids in July 2017 when Lungile tried to seize control of Bongi’s record company. Greed is a monster and Lungile went as far as poisoning Bongi and having her committed to a mental asylum. On the outside, she appears to have put that behind them on Monday 16 April, reveals Meshack. “Bongi tells Lungile to get himself to an AA meeting,” but the actor adds that behind the scenes, Bongi knows her role in Lungile going off the rail. In March, she switched Lerato’s baby with her friend Nomalanga’s (Nomalanga Shozi) dying newborn and thought it would end of Lungile and Lerato’s relationship. “Bongi had no idea that she would contribute to Lungile’s depression. Even though she feels guilty, she’ll never admit her role – she has Lungile back and her plan has worked, maybe not how she’d planned, but it has worked,” says Meshack.

DIRTY DEEDS

“Lungile suspects something is going on but he doesn’t realise the extent,” grunts Meshack. Lungile agrees to move back in with Bongi on Tuesday 17 April, unaware of her toyboy Bash (Siphiwe Mtshali) who knows her secret and isn’t going away. Lungile should keep his eyes open, hints Meshack, because Bash is creeping in the shadows threatening to ruin the newly repaired marriage. You’d think Bash would’ve learnt his lesson: don’t threaten Bongi, because nothing is “a step too far” for her!
