Hillside’s easy- on-the- eye lawyer André’s (Marcus Muller) relationship with Eclectic E boutique manager Connie (Quinne Brown Huffman) hangs on by a thread on Wednesday 25 April when he gets too emotionally involved in a client’s case. “Audiences’ perception of my character will be challenged,” Marcus reveals. “You will see his dark side but as the story comes along, you will understand why he’s being this way,” he adds cryptically.

LEGAL ADVICE NEEDED

André’s troubles started with the kind gesture of helping Dominee Burger (Arnold van Heerden) with his court case on Monday 9 April. “The Dominee’s congregation approached a legal clinic because they suspect his fall [from his balcony] at his flat was no accident. André was called in to help the prosecution with the case against the Dominee’s son Jacques (Ruan Wessels) – who they suspect is the one who pushed his dad,” explains Marcus.

SUPPRESSED PAIN

André plays detective on Wednesday 25 April and finds out that Jacques might have had a good reason to push his father – who is now brain-dead and paralysed. “André suspects abuse but he doesn’t have concrete evidence.” This brings up André’s past and he starts to think back to his childhood troubles with his father. “He becomes emotionally compromised with the case and starts to sympathise with Jacques,” explains Marcus. This leads André to ask a colleague and fellow lawyer to take over the case that same day.

RATTLED & RAGED

André finds it difficult to “just let go” of the case and by Friday 27 April, he is plagued with flashbacks of incidents between him and his father. “He takes out his frustrations on Connie,” sighs Marcus. “This trial is important but it is having a bad affect on him. He recuses himself before something bad happens,” adds the actor.

JACQUES THE BULLY

Jacques is a familiar troublemaker in Hillside – he blackmailed Oppiekoffie waitress Esti’s (Reandi Grey) son Thomas (Vian Singleton) last month with a video that he found online of when Esti was working as an exotic dancer.
