Dead wrong

MaNgcobo thinks that she can crash Gxabhashe’s funeral, but her dead ex still has the last word.

Gxabhashe’s (Mpumele-lo Bhulose) first funeral back in August 2015 was a farce. His “widow” MaNgcobo (Dawn Thandeka King) alienated her in-laws when she tried to kick them out of her house. Then the hearse that was supposedly carrying Gxabhashe’s body from KwaMashu to the Xulus’ village vanished and MaNgcobo broke solemn funeral protocol to confront Gxabhashe’s brother Mkhonto (Bonga Dlamini) – the man who had tried to murder Gxabhashe – after the coffin and corpse disappeared next. So it’s no wonder that the Xulus will do anything to keep their “pushy” former daughter-in-law MaNgcobo away when they put Gxabhashe in the ground for good on Tuesday 15 May…

NOT WANTED

This time MaNgcobo is convinced that her ex-husband really is dead. “When she finds out that there was a fight and he was attacked because he was in an institution [prison], she doesn’t question the fact that he has passed. He died in a controlled environment,” explains Dawn. So she is prepared to fight when the Xulus tell her that she’s not welcome on Monday 14 May. But on Tuesday 15 May, Mkhonto claims to have a message from beyond the grave from the one person she will listen to: Gxabhashe himself. “When she wants to go to the funeral, Mkhonto arrives and he is the one who says to her that Gxabashe gave specific instructions: that she shouldn’t be allowed at the funeral. She never stopped loving him. This is the only thing that makes her not go – not his family, not her new husband Nkunzi (Masoja Msiza). It’s questionable. It could be true. Maybe. Well, I’m not even sure why he would do that, because he loved her so much,” admits Dawn.

CUT FROM THE WILL

And there’s shocking news for the Xulu family when the will is read on Wednesday 16 May. “Gxabhashe had a beautiful house that no one knew about. It’s heartbreaking to hear that nothing goes to his swapped-atbirth son Mxolisi (Nay Maps Maphalala),” reveals Dawn. It looks like when it comes to Gxabhashe’s death, it’s blood rather than loyalty and family that counts.
