A tangled weave

GC needs a place to call home but he’s courting disaster when he goes out on the cheap.

-

GC’s (Khaya Dladla) home life has become impossible lately. “He’s renting a backroom, but his landlord moves in people – his actual relatives. And they use GC’s clothes from the washing line and bring it back saying ‘ thank you’. And they end up moving into GC’s room while he is there. They even hold a traditional ritual in GC’s room,” reveals Khaya. But without any cash in his fabulous pockets, GC settles on a hair-raising solution – as his business partner Thobile (Nokuthula Mabika) discovers when she arrives at their salon unexpectedly early in the morning on Monday 23 July…

NO PLACE LIKE SALON

“Thobile walks in when GC is really comfortable,” says Khaya. “He has his earphones in, so he doesn’t hear her. He’s singing, brushing his teeth in his pyjamas – in the sink where they wash people’s hair. GC gets the shock of his life! When I read that in the script, I was like, ‘Okay’,” sighs Khaya. “GC slept everywhere else while he was under the influence, now he’s sleeping at the salon – at least he’s showering! I always say, ‘This is the end’. And stuff keeps coming up. I’m like, ‘When does GC stop?’” asks Khaya while choking back laughter. Thobile is shocked and the clients are appalled on Wednesday 25 July. “It’s epic. GC has been washing underwear and hanging it in the salon and there’s a huge pink G-string drying on the chair that a client is about to sit on. It’s disgusting but it’s really funny onscreen,” says Khaya.

HOME WRECKER

Rather than lose clients, GC rushes to find a new place to stay – with a little help with Gabisile (Baby Cele). But he’ll find that she drives a hard bargain. “She wants her hair done for free a few times a month. Gabisile chooses the most expensive packages and leaves without paying! The books will not balance,” warns Khaya. Thobile will find him out soon enough, but first it’s time for GC’s housewarming party on Tuesday 31 July. “GC is too much. He organises housewarming in a one-room house. It’s so hectic,” says Khaya. “He asks if Club Genesis can sponsor drinks, if the shisanyama can sponsor meat. For a housewarming. And the celebrities who come to the club, can they arrange for them to come to his place?” Never change, GC. Never change.
