The other woman

Renate Stuurman’s character Sheree drops a bomb on her boss Lindiwe that she’s been sleeping with her husband.

-

For mining engineer Sheree (Renate Stuurman), coming clean to her ruthless boss Lindiwe (Sindi Dlathu) about being her husband Zweli’s (Hlomla Dandala) mistress on Friday 20 July is the right thing to do. “Sheree believes that after everything that Lindiwe has done for her, Lindiwe deserves to know,” says Renate. The news is going to send Lindiwe over the edge, but Zweli (who’s been trying to dump Sheree) claims that he loves his wife dearly! The situation doesn’t get better for Lindiwe though, who welcomed Sheree into her home on Thursday 31 June and inadvertently her bed too when Lindiwe left Sheree in charge of her mine company while she was on a business trip. “You know what they say, ‘ the truth shall set you free’ and the guilt is eating Sheree from the inside. She is willing to take her chances with Lindiwe and possibly lose everything that she’s worked so hard for,” adds the actress.

Zweli came to his senses about his affair with Sheree in early July, but she can’t let go of him. Why’s that? She met Zweli at a vulnerable time in her life when she was having issues with her offscreen fiancé. She needed a shoulder to cry on and mistook Zweli’s friendliness as love, that’s when their affair started. She thinks they have a strong relationship and clings onto the idea that they have something real. How does Sheree differ from the other characters you’ve played, like bubbly radio host Thula on drama Thula’s Vine (2017-current) and career-driven Brenda on drama UnMarried (2018-current)? Unlike my past characters, Sheree isn’t the girl-next- door. She has controversial flaws like being obsessive and having affairs with married men. Viewers will love to hate her. How did you land this role? I contacted the producers after watching the first few episodes in February this year and I asked them whether I could join the cast. They didn’t have an appropriate storyline to add a character [for me] at the time. I kept on nagging until they called me months later to audition for the role of Sheree – my persistence helped a great deal. What other projects are you currently busy with? I played Namhla on a theatre production called Suddenly The Storm in 2016 and it’s back on stage again later this year.
