Well-laid plans

Rickus’s jealousy could get in the way of Willem and his press-on moustache saving Rickus’s mom from a life in prison.

-

There’s drama in the Welman home again – this time between dad Chris (David Rees), his son Rickus (André Lotter) and son-in-law Willem (Markus Haywood). Chris and Willem are planning to get Chris’s wife Mariaan (Deirdre Wolhuter) out of prison, but Rickus is unaware of this and thinks that Chris is favouring Markus instead of him as his son. A jealous Rickus is the last thing on Willem’s mind right now: he’s focused on saving his mom-in-law!

THE LAST STRAW

“Rickus is always looking for Chris’s approval but he never gets it,” explains André. “Chris sees everything in black and white. Rickus doesn’t understand it and they often bump heads.” Chris hears on Thursday 19 July that Rickus wants to cut himself off from the family and while he’s furious, Chris needs to get Mariaan out of prison first – Rickus and his issues can wait until later,” says André.”

THE PLAN IS AFOOT

While Rickus is busy at Home Affairs on Monday 23 July changing his name – drastic, we know – Willem gets an idea about how to get Mariaan free. During their phonecall on Friday 20 July, Mariaan mentioned to Chris how obsessed dangerous inmate Amanda (Carina Nel) is with her cyber lover “Loveboat69”. “That’s it!” says Markus with a laugh. “He’s going to dress-up and pretend to be this guy Loveboat69 and get information from Amanda in prison… info that they can blackmail Hillside lawyer Lesedi (KB Motsilanyane) with and force her to get Mariaan out of prison. With tattoos, thick-rim glasses and fake facial hair in place, Willem heads to the prison on Tuesday 24 July and he hits the jackpot while visiting with Amanda, who’s too focused on having her online lover in front of her to realise that she’s giving Willem the info he needs – Lesedi is behind Mariaan’s prison stay. “He knew that it would work,” says Markus. “He may have rescued the innocent Mariaan.”
