“Hey – that’s my baby”

Rick and Maya love their little Lizzy – but a legal error could rip her away and send her back to surrogate Nicole.

-

Rick and Maya (Jacob Young and Karla Mosley) sort- of face every parent’s nightmare: losing their child. Family lawyer Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) tells Rick on Thursday 19 June that he made a mistake on Lizzy’s (Jaliyah & Janiyah Wilson) adoption papers and Nicole (Reign Edwards), Lizzy’s biological mother, has to sign them again to make the adoption legal. Nicole is reluctant to sign though because she has just found out that she can’t have more kids, so why lose Lizzy again? “There is a strong possibility that Rick and Maya might lose their daughter,” Jacob tells us from Los Angeles. “It’s up to Rick to make sure it won’t happen.”

How will Rick assure Maya that all will be fine with Lizzy? When Rick puts his stubborn head to something, he gets what he wants. Maya knows that. In the back of his mind, he realises that if he can’t convince Nicole to sign the papers, they may lose Lizzy forever. So he goes guns blazing to avoid his family from breaking up. What does Rick make of Julius (Obba Babatundé) pushing his daughter Nicole not to sign the papers? Julius has always been against Rick and Maya. It does not surprise Rick at all. So Nicole will sign them? She comes to her senses [on Monday 30 July]. It is the right thing to do and she can’t keep her sister Maya and Lizzy apart. Jacob, how much of your personal life as a family man did you invest in this storyline? I always bring much of my knowledge of life to my storylines. This was particularly close to home, being a father [he and model wife Christen have three children: son Luke and daughters Molly and Grace]. So this storyline definitely pulled on my heartstrings. NB! See p45 for Karla’s thoughts.
