There are worried faces today when Rick (Jacob Young) tells his wife Maya (Karla Mosley) that there was an error on their daughter Lizzy’s (Jaliyah and Janiyah Wilson) adoption papers and Lizzy’s biological mom – Maya’s sister Nicole (Reign Edwards) – has to sign them again. “Maya knows how attached Nicole is to Lizzy,” Karla tells us from Los Angeles. “Maya probably knows that part of Nicole isn’t totally comfortable with the situation.”
How real are the chances of Maya and Rick losing Lizzy to Nicole? Well, Lizzy is Rick’s biological daughter, so they’d never lose her completely. And my guess is that they would find a way to win in court if it came to that. But I don’t think either of them want it to come to that – or even close. Maya and Rick want to find a way to have a loving family without conflict. What is Maya and Nicole’s relationship like currently, seeing as Nicole is unable to have children of her own? They are extremely connected and they have a deep love and respect for each other. Knowing about Nicole’s health issues upsets Maya. She wants the best for her sister. Nicole’s reluctance to sign the adoption papers [on Friday 20 July] must worry Maya? It brings up Maya’s fears that Nicole will never sign them, which is why she gets defensive pretty quickly. She can’t be happy that her dad Julius (Obba Babatundé) is siding with Nicole either? Maya is not new to Julius’s opinions of her and her life choices. I think it’s disappointing because she thought that he’d come around, but it’s also complicated because she never thought her sister might not be able to have another child. NB! See more on p29.
