There’s no doubting culinary students Katlego and Candice’s (Patrick Seleka and Liza van Deventer) skills in the kitchen. Their business expertise on the other hand is questionable as they struggle to open their new restaurant Capsy’s on time, having bought it in May this year and being faced with obstacle after obstacle. “They invested all their money and energy into their business and it’s left them frustrated and at each other’s throats constantly. Even the opening is an issue,” explains Patrick. They’ve got to worry about paying their staff, as well as settling their debt with their investor – dodgy businessman Lehasa (Cedric Fourie), who leased them the business. “They have bills to pay. Their agreement with Lehasa is that if they raise enough money, they can buy Capsy’s outright, so their grand opening has to be a success. If it’s a flop, they could lose everything, including their reputations,” adds the actor.

CREATING THE BUZZ

After going back and forth on Thursday 2 August, the business owners hire a cheap publicity manager to promote the opening. “It’s what they can afford financially. The restaurant had a lot of bad publicity in the past and customers have left in droves,” says Patrick. “They need someone to take over the PR for them.” That takes a bit of stress off their shoulders, since they’re still at college and don’t have time to plan ahead for their business or engage with patrons. They have had to rely on word of mouth until now. And it seems to work from Friday 3 August because the opening is the only thing that people are talking about on social media. “This good news brings Kat and Candice back together. Their fighting pushed them apart and took its toll, but they find themselves,” adds Patrick.

THE BALL IS ROLLING

All that’s left to do is enjoy the night on Tuesday 7 August and even an unexpected power outage can’t stop the opening. Katlego’s friend Sphola (Thabang Lefoa) comes to their rescue and lends them his generator, “Keeping the lights on and the party going,” says Patrick. Capsy’s instantly becomes the place to be seen but there is a warning from the actor: too much success isn’t always a good thing. Ominous words… but what will crumble?
