Going the extra mile

A deal is a deal for newlyweds Cosmo and Mei.

Cosmo (Ronnie Nyakale) returned from his Chinese business trip in late July with something extra: a fiancée! That surprised his family and friends, as do their plans for a shotgun wedding on Monday 6 August. The ex-gangster has never been one to go with the flow, so him settling down is suspicious. And for good reason, explains Michelle Aldana, whose character Mei acted as Cosmo’s translator in China. “This is just a cover. The plan was to get her South African citizenship and a job so she could send money back to her family. That is easier with a husband.” But if Mei thought getting to SA was tough, wait until she meets Cosmo’s family!

BRINGING INTO POSITION

“Everyone is shocked, more so because Mei isn’t a city girl like Cosmo’s other girlfriends,” says Michelle. “She’s rural. She’s nothing like the women he likes.” Lucy (Manaka Ranaka) especially isn’t welcoming of her new sister-in-law and she makes that clear on Thursday 9 August, giving Mei a set of house rules: no weird spicy food and no weird teas. “The family aren’t used to her weird cooking, so she must behave.” Lucy is keeping an eye on this invader in her space, adds Michelle.

CONTRACTS & CLAUSES

For Mei, there is no romantic feeling – Cosmo is older and like the father she never had, explains the actress. “He provides her security and she never knew that generosity like his existed. Her biggest fear – although they have discussed feelings – is that she could hurt him.” Mei had better make sure that she gives Cosmo what he wants – or his gangster side could return. Or worse: Lucy gets hold of her…
