Burn the other cheek
Phindi has capital-H had it with “rising above” her co-worker Gloria’s nonsense!
Scandal! Weekdays e.tv (*194) 19:30
The odd affair with a married man aside, Phindi (Pretty Ncayiyana) is a nice girl – smart, sensible, hardworking and determined. Normally even Gloria’s (Marjorie Langa) shenanigans can’t shake her. But the Safe N Clean incentive scheme seems to have awoken the competitive tiger in Phindi. And her tiger growls when she reports Gloria’s scheming on Wednesday 1 August and is simply told to “rise above” it. But when she finds out on Monday 6 August that Gloria has blackmailed a colleague into sabotaging Phindi’s efforts to win the contest, the claws come out at last!
REVENGE & REGRET
“Phindi has reached a boiling point. She feels like somebody needs to stand up to Gloria and put Gloria in her place,” says Pretty. ‘She has tried to stay away from Gloria’s nonsense, but now she is just tired and she can’t take it anymore. So she is vengeful. After sabotaging Gloria [on Tuesday 7 August] she is quite proud of what she has done and quite happy, because Gloria is a bad person and she deserves everything that is coming her way,” says Pretty. But alas, her conscience comes calling all too soon. “She boasts about it [on Wednesday 8 August] saying, ‘I want to do more because this was not enough,’” It’s only when she is confronted and told, ‘No, Phindi, this is wrong’, that she thinks, ‘I shouldn’t have done it’. When she sees the negativity around what she has done, it hits her. She feels guilty, she feels bad and she doesn’t like that she’s turning into that person, because she’s a bigger person – usually.”
SLING MUD, GET DIRTY
It’s too late for Phindi to take back what she’s done though and a huge confrontation will erupt between her and Gloria on Friday 10 August – right there in the office, in front of the boss! And when that happens, well, Gloria has no reputation to speak of and to keep her slate clean, but Phindi has a lot to lose even though, as Pretty points out, “Phindi is angry because Gloria started the whole thing”. If only she worked for rival company Just N Fair instead of Safe N Clean…
