After what feels like a million years of fighting the sexual tension, Abby and Chad (Kate Mansi and Billy Flynn) give in on Thursday 2 August – in the romantic rose garden of the DiMera mansion. Along with their clothes, they shrug off the fact that Abby is still dating Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) and had an affair with Chad’s late brother EJ (James Scott). But when Chad’s evil dad Stefano (Joseph Mascolo) returns to Salem on Tuesday 7 August to gloat about their growing love, Chad gets cold chills. He’s all too familiar with how Stefano uses his kids’ significant others to control their lives. Luckily for Abby, Chad already loves her enough to break both their hearts if that’s what it takes to keep them out of Stefano’s greedy hands!
BREAK HER TO SAVE HER
Chad gets humiliatingly graphic when Abby tells him on Wednesday 8 August that she can’t be with him “like that” again. He bluntly tells her, “I came back to Salem with one goal: to prove to myself that after everything between you and EJ, you still wanted me. And you do. Badly. It was kind of pathetic how obvious you were. I could’ve given you what you wanted right away, but the whole game was just kind of flattering to me. You are a lot more adventurous than the last time I had you. Did EJ teach you that stuff?” Stefano is furious when he realises that Chad chased off Abby to defy him and while Abby races straight back to Ben’s arms, the moment that he is alone, Chad agonises over the fact that he still loves her and that he always has.
NEW SUPERCOUPLE
Billy reveals that the two originally weren’t meant to be so hot together! “But we had chemistry and the couple was created. Fans latched on to them. For a time, they were one of the only rootable pairs growing into a potential supercouple,” he explains. Kate agrees, saying that “when Chad and Abby are at their highest highs, there’s a depth we bring to the scenes of the tension and anxiety-provoking love we have. The stakes are so high for that love.”
