Funny You Should Ask

-

Season 1 SABC3 (*193) 20:00 Gameshow

It’s no laughing matter that contestants are playing for $5 000 (R67 000) on new gameshow Funny You Should Ask (2017current). The problem is that the two players are getting help from a panel of comedians to answer questions posed by host Jon Kelley. “And more often than not, the answers are so ridiculous that the contestants don’t know what to believe,” says the former journalistturned-host. “Sometimes the help isn’t actually a help.”

Funny You Should Ask is based on the 1968-1969 gameshow of the same name and sees the players quizzed on everything from the health benefits of farting, to what age Mary Queen Of Scots was when she was anointed – the answer is six days and the comedian’s “helpful” answer was, “Yes, she crawled her way to the top.”

But handling the comedy stars is the hardest work that 52-year-old Jon has had since becoming a sports anchor in 1991, revealing that “they get so out of hand. We can do 10 takes for a single question just because these guys go so far – and get unPC – with answers that we can’t use.” TV and movie fans will recognise a lot of the comedians who’re on the panel, including Anthony Anderson (Andre in comedy Black-ish, 2014-current), Howie Mandel (a judge on reality show America’s Got Talent, 2006-current), Jackée Harry (Evelyn in sitcom comedy Girl Meets World, 2014-2017) and Jon Lovitz (Artie in comedy Hot In Cleveland, 20102015). It’s game time!
