Susan shuts down the royal house thanks to Azwindini
Mahumela Mahuwa isn’t surprised about the drama surrounding her character Susan and her husband Chief Azwindini (Gabriel Temudzani). “Susan has always known of his love for women but she’s always been able to keep him in line,” explains the actress honestly. “She has written it off as the baggage that comes with being married to a royal.” However, Azwindini having a child with another woman – the mayor’s wife Livhuwani (Anzani Tshivhase) – is an entirely different story. “It’s too much for her. It breaks her. This [child] is just too much,” laments Mahumela.
How does Susan find out about Azwindini’s lovechild? Thathe’s mayor Tenda (Nat Ramabulana) made Azwindini confess in a letter when he tried to kill the chief [on Monday 30 July] and make it look like suicide. What does she make of the letter? It tears her apart, seeing his words on paper and confessing to having a child. For the first time as a royal wife, Susan is devastated. She doesn’t know what to do. She thought that they were a team – 21 years is a long time and she never doubted his love once. Her heart is broken because she’s never cheated on her true love. But Chief Azwindini obviously doesn’t feel the same. What are the consequences for Azwindini? He could very well lose all that she is to him. Susan has been put through too much to still be there. Every woman has her limits – maybe that’s why she shuts down the Royal house [on Thursday 2 August] and kicks everyone out. So she’s not going to punish him? I don’t think that punish is the right word. She gave him everything. He has hurt her so deeply that he could lose his best friend and comforter. She will never trust him again and that might be punishment enough. Do they have a future together? It’s bleak. She is a strong woman, but it’s bleak. What would you tell Susan? It’s “fine” to get hurt. It’s also fine to cry. But marriage is forever, handle it with care.
