Season 3 of NCIS: New Orleans (2014- current) ended with Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula) faking his death and doing the one thing frowned upon in law enforcement: going rogue. “But that had to happen. There was simply no alternative,” explains Scott. “Pride has always done things by the books and this hurt him, having to break such a significant rule. Pride has his pride – he couldn’t let anyone on his team in on his plan. And he’s paid heavily as the season begins.” This storyline is going to carry through the season and it’s something executive producer Chris Silber says “will make the team – and the show – stronger. Each of the NCIS: New Orleans characters has faced disgrace before. And each has a special skill-set necessary to help. For Pride, he will need all the help he can get being saved because the danger that they are facing this time is very real”.

POLITICAL PROBLEMS

Pride’s season 3 cliffhanger transformation is part of his plan to expose New Orleans’ mayor Douglas Hamilton (Steven Weber) for “everything from murder and drug trafficking, to organised crime and worse,” reveals Scott. But there was no way that Pride would get permission to investigate the most powerful man in the city. “That’s why he’s done what he’s done – he was backed into this corner and saw no way out other than going rogue. His team don’t know, his bosses don’t know… this isn’t like him and that is why it’s such a bitter pill to swallow.”

CHILL PILL

Season 4 starts with Pride back in the swing of things, having succeeded with his mission and during the episode, he will see Mayor Hamilton cuffed and hauled off to prison. But his joy will be short-lived because his bosses aren’t happy with his shenanigans. “Okay, so he got the bad guy, but he’s been a bit of a bad boy to do that. Dwayne knows how his reputation looks and he’s taken pride in everything he has done in his career. He doesn’t take pride in this as he disobeyed the rules he upholds.” As punishment, he’s put on Administrative Leave – a fancy way of saying he’s been kicked out of the office until his team can do damage control. They’re in good hands though while Pride is off playing piano and doing other Pride things – supervisor Agent Paula Boyd (Becky Ann Baker) is taking control while Pride is being investigated. “And even that is a problem for the team,” says Scott with a chuckle. “They’re not the most by-the-books team around and that’s exactly who Boyd is. Everything is done according to regulations and the rule book when she’s in charge. Let’s just say that there are going to be a couple of unhappy NCIS agents getting to grips with the admin side of their duties again.”

DEATH COMES CALLING

Just because the mayor is stuck behind bars doesn’t mean that Pride and his team are safe for the rest of the season. “Hamilton made a lot of connections who’re not pleased that their business is in ruins because of this NCIS team. They will be out for revenge and when guys like this come looking for you, a bulletproof vest is probably not going to be enough to save you,” says Chris Silber. Pride and Co had better keep their guns handy and sleep with one eye open – they’ve been warned…
