Lesedi’s (Luyanda Mzazi) school trip goes from dream to nightmare overnight on Friday 31 August when she wakes up with her shirt unbuttoned and pants unzipped. While she isn’t 100% certain, the only person in her mind who could’ve sexually abused her is teacher Mr Carlson (Clayton Boyd), who walked her to her dorm room on Thursday 20 August after Lesedi felt ill during the outdoor activities. “He gave her pills to feel better but she passed out moments later,” says Luyanda. Mr Carlson didn’t return to the group while Lesedi was out cold offscreen and he’s unusually friendly, warns Luyanda. “Lesedi doesn’t know what to make of the situation! In her mind, Mr Carlson drugged her to take advantage of her,” says the actress. While Lesedi can’t recall the details, she wants to stop Mr Carlson before he does this to another student.

DISHING OUT THE TRUTH

This incident takes Lesedi on a trip down memory lane to November 2016 when her drink was spiked and she was held hostage by a human-trafficking ring. “She closes herself and pushes her family away again,” explains Luyanda. “She avoids any questions about the camp, especially because she’s still not sure about what actually happened.” But Lesedi’s friend Lerato (Candice Modiselle) notices her jumpy behaviour on Wednesday 5 September and confronts Lesedi, who cracks. “She tells Lerato everything. She was scared that no one would believe her but Lerato does and she tells Lesedi to expose the sexpest,” explains Luyanda.

STEPPING UP

Lesedi fears the worst on Monday 10 September when she spots Mr Carlson chatting to a student. “He’s too friendly with Amy (Marilise van Wyk) – that could mean she is his next target,” says Luyanda. “Lesedi is hesitant about telling Amy to stay away from Carlson, worried that she will be called a liar and bullied. Her fears get so bad that it’s all she can think about and she neglects her schoolwork.”
