Cheated & defeated
Heartbroken Amorey is starting afresh away from Hillside.

Amorey (Kristen Raath) has had her fill of life in The Laan after finding out in mid August that her husband Willem (Markus Haywood) was sleeping with yoga instructor Tineke ( Trix Vivier). “Something broke inside her,” says Kristen. “She cut him off emotionally and the best thing for her is to leave and find a new life.” Despite Willem’s grovelling to sort out their marriage, nothing is keeping Amorey in Hillside beyond Friday 24 August. “It’s too late and while it hasn’t hit him yet, there are going to be consequences,” adds Kristen.
FIRST FLIGHT OUT
Willem didn’t even get a goodbye – he found out that his wife had left when his father in law Chris (David Rees) told him that Amorey had hopped on a plane to Stellenbosch. “She’s got her old job back at a coffee shop and she’s going to finish studying to become a qualified chef,” explains the actress. She isn’t taking his calls or reading his messages on her phone and to rub salt in his wounds, Chris hands Amorey’s wedding ring back to Willem and on Wednesday 29 August tells him to find a lawyer immediately “because Amorey wants a divorce as quickly as possible. That hurts him,” says Kristen.
FORGET ME NOT
While Willem is being eaten by his guilt, Markus says that he doesn’t let anyone see. “He tries to show everyone that this isn’t affecting him – he tries to put Amorey at the back of his mind by throwing wild parties and hooking up with as many women as possible.” Hmmm we wonder how that makes Tineke feel – like a cheap floozy kicked to the curb by Monday 3 September. If only Willem had a father figure to give him some much-needed advice…
MOVING FORWARD
Kristen resigned in March and shot her last scenes in June, but this isn’t the last that Hillside will see of her. “It felt like my season had come to an end but I won’t think twice to return when the time is right.” As for the cast, she admits that she’s going to miss working with her onscreen hubby Markus – they secretly dated for over a year but neither is saying much about their split.
