-

Season 1 e.tv (*194) 20:30 Drama

Torrey DeVitto’s newest role sees her playing Dr Natalie Manning in Chicago Med (2015-current), but she nearly got into music instead of acting. Her father Liberty has been drumming for singer Billy Joel for over 50 years and her mother Mary has been besties with singer Stevie Nicks for almost 60 years. “I have played a number of instruments since I was about six,” says the actress. “Violin was always my favourite.”

She was so good with 1

the violin that she played a solo at Christie Brinkley’s (Gayle in comedy Parks & Recreation, 2009-2015) wedding in 1996 when she was 12. They’d met while Christie was married to Torrey’s godfather Billy Joel from 1985 to 1994.

She still plays the violin and per2

formed on a number of albums, including Stevie Nicks’s 2011 In Your Dreams. “It’s fun and I love music,” she says, “but acting is where my heart is.”

Torrey started acting in 1998 when 3

she was cast in commercials after signing with Ford Modelling Agency but she quit modelling in 2002 after getting tired of catalogue work.

Her first two roles were more to 4

do with her looks than talents – she played “Pretty Girl” in 2003 on both drama Dawson’s Creek (1998-2003) and hospital comedy Scrubs (2001-2010).

She played Dr Fell on fantasy show 5

The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017) but it left her with a broken heart – she divorced her co-star hubby Paul Wesley (Stefan) after just two years of marriage in 2013.

Torrey adds that “I’ve found peace 6

meditating and doing yoga at my cabin in the woods with my two dogs. It is both liberating and calming”.
