Desperate-dad Suffocate returns to his life of crime by stealing from his rival to save his kidnapped daughter.
Reformed convict Suffo (Mduduzi Mabaso) is living a parent’s worst nightmare after his daughter Busi (Thato Ntshubela) was abducted from a park on Wednesday 14 October. “He doesn’t sleep, eat or speak to anyone,” says the actor with a sigh. “The stress of searching for clues is driving a wedge between Suffo and his loved ones. He also believes that Niki (Nolo Phiri), his ex-wife and Busi’s mom, is behind the kidnapping as revenge for him taking second wife Puleng (Tebogo Khalo).” The situation becomes clearer and more troubling though on Thursday 22 November when Suffo gets a call from his ex- cellmate Lerumo (Khotso Nkhatho). “This guy wants R1 million for Busi. Suffo scrambles to pays it, but Lerumo demands more,” says an exasperated Mduduzi. Suffo only knows one place he can get the cash and while stealing from his rival David (Jamie Bartlett) is a bad idea, “It is his only option,” says the actor.
FOR OLD TIMES SAKES
Planning to rob David is one thing but actually doing it is much trickier, adds Mduduzi: “Suffo has seen a safe full of cash in David’s office during their meetings. Only a few of David’s employees are even allowed in there, let alone know the access code.” But Suffo is a man with a plan and on Tuesday 27 November he tells Niki’s brother Bash (Siphiwe Mtshali) to get the safe code and his boss David’s schedule. “Suffo doesn’t want to hurt anyone,” reveals Mduduzi. “He wants to sneak in, take the cash and leave. Plus, David has done a lot of bad things to him, like having an affair with Niki in 2015, so it’s payback. David won’t miss a few million rand anyway.”
SETTLING THE SCORE
Suffo, Niki and Bash break into David’s office on Tuesday 4 December, not caring that they’ll be caught on security cameras. “He is desperate. He doesn’t care that David knows it’s him. David can’t report the money to the police anyway – it’s from illegal deals,” says Mduduzi. Suffocate will deal with any blowback from David later. Right now, he needs to save his daughter because Lerumo wants his money and has no problem killing Busi. Someone who is going to care is David and he could ruin Suffo and Niki saving their daughter on Wednesday 5 December, says Mduduzi. “David is furious. He is going to make them pay – and not just with money!”
