Mozart In The Jungle

Season 4 M-Net (*101) 22:30 Drama

Musical drama Mozart In The Jungle (2014-2018) is entering the fourth and final movement of its four-season symphony. In classical music, this would be its liveliest section, with fast, furious action and the performers showing off to the utmost limits of their skills. So even if you’re only shuffling into your seat now, it’s worth sitting down for. Here is a sneak peek at the high notes in the coming season:

1 New York Symphony’s charming, dreamy conductor Rodrigo (Gael García Bernal) and his assistant, oboist and wanna-be-conductor Hailey (Lola Kirke) are now officially in a relationship. But she’s spent three seasons growing a backbone, so they’ll stay flirty while chasing their own dreams, which is a lovely dynamic.

2 John Cameron Mitchell joins in episode 1 for a season-long arc as choreographer Egon, who wants Rodrigo to help him create a ballet based on Faust – to be performed without an audience.

3 The show never takes itself too seriously. In episode 5 (21 December), Rodrigo’s new ghostly mentor Liberace (David Turner) ditches him for being “too sad”.

4 And the orchestra goes to Tokyo, Japan in episode 6 (28 December) where Rodrigo runs into and jealously murders a conducting robot Mozart called WAM. Plus, there is a romantic tea ceremony and so much beauty… along with New York Symphony president Gloria (Bernadette Peters) singing drunk karaoke.
