The Gifted
Season 2 FOX (*125) 20:45 Sci-fi
Stephen Moyer is done with vampire superpowers as Bill in horror show True Blood (2008-2014) but his role as district attorney- on-the-run Reed in sci-fi series The Gifted (2017- current) comes with as many warning signs thanks to his stillsecret mutant powers. “Everyone thinks superpowers are great. What if it isn’t all that and it’s debilitating, dark and destructive?” asks the 49-year- old Brit. “We know from season 1 that when his children use their power together, it is a dark power. It’s within his genealogy.”
So you don’t actually know yourself what Reed’s power is? No, I do not. But what I do know is that Reed’s grandparents had dark powers. That’s what his father was trying to do when he operated on Reed, to get rid of that darkness. Season 1 was a very busy introduction… What they [the production team] have done this season is smart. Instead of everybody getting loads of stuff to do and the viewer not being able to concentrate because of 12 storylines, you will be concentrating on one or two. That focuses more and I’m excited. So the stunts will be more epic for Reed? There is nothing more exciting than stunts! My wife [ Anna Paquin, Sookie in True Blood] has me doing CrossFit, which is gnarly. So I am ready [for bumps and bruises] but my character might not be. His job is also changing, from oppressor to protector and now mutant. How will he handle those transitions? Given that he is somebody who has always been very controlled in his life, one of the things I was interested in this season is what if he is not in control?
