A blast from the past

Kop is ready to sign a death warrant when his wife’s killer Gadifele crashes his Christmas.

-

Christmas lunch on Tuesday 25 December is everything that family man Kop (Setlhabi Taunyane) wanted – he is surrounded by his loved ones, he has his favourite meal and everyone is having fun. So what could go wrong? A lot! Gadifele (Ferry Jele) knocks on his doorstep and she asks him to forgive her for accidentally fatally shooting his wife Mamokete (Connie Chiume) in 2016. “Kop’s mood instantly changes,” says Setlhabi. “He chases her out like a dog, warning Gadifele never to return. He is fuming,” adds the actor. The last thing on Kop’s mind is burying the hatchet. He wants to even the score with her for ruining his life and while it’s unreasonable, the only way to do so is to kill her, explains Setlhabi. “Kop never stopped mourning Kete even though he married Blossom (Slindile Nodangala) this year. He has unresolved emotions and believes that he’ll only find closure if he sends Gadifele six feet under.”

SHOTS FIRED

Good-guy Kop would never normally hurt a fly but Gadifele’s return brings out the worst in him. “He thought that she would rot in prison but she’s out on medical parole [she has cancer], which angers him,” says the actor. Everyone at the table insists that Kop should listen to what Gadifele has to say but he excuses himself and goes in search of someone to buy a gun from that same day Tuesday 25 December. “He is also hurt that Blossom doesn’t side with him,” says Setlhabi. “She keeps telling Kop that Gadifele was drunk and didn’t know what she was doing.” That’s little consolation to Kop, who remembers Mamokete dying in his arms like it was yesterday. “He plans to shoot her in the stomach and flee the scene right after, the same way that Gadifele killed Kete,” says Setlhabi.

KOP GOES KILLER

Being told that Gadifele has terminal cancer on Thursday 27 December only speeds up Kop’s plans and makes him more resolute to kill her before she dies naturally. He manipulates her nephew Sabelo (Ishmauel Songo) into planning her early death on Thursday 27 December. “Kop knows that Sabelo wants Gadifele to die too because of how she treated him when she was meant to be his legal guardian,” says Setlhabi. Sabelo invites the homeless Gadifele to live with him, making it easier to kill her. “Sabelo sees that Kop is terrified of killing Gadifele, so he offers to pull the trigger,” adds the actor. Will Kop get his revenge or will his head straighten out in time?
