If looks could kill

Always fear when Odirile is near because the despised Kwena royal knows how to get away with murder.

-

There’ll be one person noticeably absent at Princess Mosetsana’s (Tshegofatso Seakgoe) funeral on Wednesday 19 December: the wicked witch of the royal Kweneng village and Mosetsana’s very own killer – her aunt Odirile (Tsholo Matshaba). Her fingerprints were found on the knife that killed Mosetsana in mid-November and Queen Mosadi (Monnye Kunupi) has ordered the police to arrest her younger sister, which takes place on the morning of the funeral. With the burial ceremony underway on Thursday 20 December, Odirile is marched off to prison but this doesn’t bother her much, explains Tsholo. “Her twisted mind immediately tells her, ‘Clear your name, Odi, think fast’.” Don’t think that because her previous attempts to skew the police investigation failed that Odirile is out of tricks – she pulls an ace from her sleeve that same day, pointing police to who Odirile claims is the real killer: Mosetsana’s ambitious older sister Kefilwe (Lerato Zah Moloi). “With Kefilwe out of the way, Odirile would be one step closer to the crown when Mosadi steps down,” says Tsholo.

FAKE NEWS

Odirile has done her homework and worrying evidence is revealed on Monday 24 December, says Tsholo. “She also used the knife [in the kitchen], so her fingerprints are there too. Kefilwe is arrested despite her protestations and Odirile is released [on Tuesday 25 December].” Playing the forgiven innocent, Odirile is constantly at her sister the queen’s side, giving her the comfort that she needs. “Odirile knows exactly what buttons to push the win over her sister,” says Tsholo.

KILLING HER SILENTLY

Odirile rolls out the next part of her plan to snatch the throne on Thursday 27 December but Tsholo admits that it isn’t as ruthless as some of her character’s other schemes. “She doesn’t want to kill her sister, so she gets muti from a sangoma that she will add to her sister’s meals. That will incapacitate the queen and make her appear unfit to rule, so she will be asked to vacate the throne.” That’s exactly how it plays out on Monday 31 December as Mosadi’s concerned family and council notice that she isn’t herself. Odirile isn’t planning to be caught this time though, adds Tsholo: “She has 18 lives and is always one step ahead. For now.”
