Mary McCormack is the first to admit that she isn’t a girly girl, but even she was surprised by the physicality of playing Deputy Marshal Mary Shannon in action cop show In Plain Sight (20082014). “I’d come home after a day of stunt work covered in dirt and bumps and bruises. It looked like I was brawling all day. I wouldn’t swap it for anything, but man, soaking in that tub afterwards was great!”

Lengthy baths aren’t Mary’s only guilty pleasure – she has a sweettooth. “I keep a secret stash of candies, ice cream and chocolates. And I have a secret-secret stash that the kids don’t know about,” she says. The 49-year- old lives in LA with her daughters Lillian (7), Rose (11) and Margaret (14) but almost moved back to New York in 2016. Her director husband Michael Morris was photographed kissing Katharine McPhee (Paige in action series Scorpion, 2014-2018) but they reconciled by the end of the year. She’s still cynical about marriage though, admitting that “I’ve done informal research and I have found no evidence that it brings happiness”. In Plain Sight gave Mary time to bond with her brother Will, who played Special Agent Robert O’Conner. He didn’t get the role through nepotism though, explains Mary: “We were cast at the same time. It was the strangest co-incidence.” She still isn’t sure where the acting genes come from. Her mom Norah was a clinical therapist, her dad William owned an ice- cream shop and her sister Bridget is a Supreme Court Justice.
