Wife on a mission

MaZulu gets renewed hope when all seems lost.

-

MaZulu (Leleti Khumalo) bumping into her childhood friend Nomfundo (Thokozani Ndlovu) at the shops on Wednesday 19 December is the exact reboot that she needs after her paternity secret blew up in her face on Wednesday 5 December. Understandably, MaZulu’s husband

Ngcolosi (Tony Kgoroge) didn’t take well to the fact that his brother

Phakade (Sandile Dlamini) had fathered all four of their children because he himself was infertile. And after Ngcolosi booted her out of the home that she’d built and tended to for over 25 years, she had nowhere to go but her past in Umbumbulu. “MaZulu came from a family that is non-existent at the moment. Her family – her mother and father – passed away during the wars that happened politically. When she got married, she knew that she wouldn’t have a place to go back to, that’s why she listened to her mother-in-law [and had children with Phakade],” explains Leleti. Even so, MaZulu sees going home as the opportunity for a fresh start. “She has a brother and uncle and she is like, ‘Maybe if I sit down with them, I might still be able to do something with my life’.”

A FRIEND IN NEED

The pieces truly click into place when “They reconnect and she tells her story. She’s really in a very lonely situation, so she needs people who can help her in every way. And when Nomfundo tells her, ‘You can’t just leave your home. You’ve worked hard and you need to do something – especially for your boy who’s still missing,’ that really talks some sense to her,” reveals Leleti. Not only that, Nomfundo also offers to help her search for Nganono (Xolani Mfeka) on Tuesday 25 December. What a gift!

LIGHTING A FIRE

As a result, we will see a determined MaZulu return to the Bhengu house on Wednesday 26 December. “Her biggest thought is, ‘This is my home, I should never have left. This is where I belong. What I did, I did for this family. I made this family. I knew exactly what I was doing and I am going to stick by them, with or without Ngcolosi’,” says Leleti. Look out, 2019 – here comes MaZulu! “She is going to be a different person altogether. She’s going to have to remind herself every time that she is on her own and she doesn’t need to rely on anyone. It’s very challenging but also very exciting,” says the actress.
