Unlucky in love
Thobile’s love-life is dealt a crushing blow thanks to her meddling mom-ster Moliehi.
There is no such thing as happilyever-after if you have a mother like Moliehi ( Vatiswa Ndara). Her strong-willed daughter Thobile (Kertrice Maitisa) has been crazy in love since bumping into her childhood friend Lucky (Louis Ngcayiya) in November. But as the relationship blossomed, Moliehi has been waiting with pruning shears, ready to snip it off on Friday 21 December because to her, Lucky isn’t in her daughter’s league. “Thobile is like her mother, strongheaded and feisty and will fight for her relationship,” warns Kertrice. Moliehi gets what she wants though, even if it means crushing her daughter’s heart in a thousand little pieces.
SUGAR SWEET
“Lucky and Thobile both grew up in the townships and have been friends since forever,” explains Louis. “The only difference between them was that he was from a poor household and she was from a rich family, but that never stopped them from staying in touch.” And when she saw him again on Friday 16 November for the first time in years, it was love at first sight. “Thobile always had a crush on Lucky,” gleams Kertrice. “He always brought out the best in her. The thing that works for them is that they complete each other and understand each other. He makes her laugh and always surprises her with a rose or something small but sweet.”
THORNY ISSUE
Moliehi has been silently fuming but can no longer hold it in on Wednesday 19 December. “She puts her foot down and explodes,” says Kertrice. “Moliehi sees Lucky as worthless and below her family’s status. He is an aspiring entrepreneur with brilliant ideas, but Moliehi sees it as nonsense.” Lucky tries his best to win over Moliehi on Friday 21 December but a bunch of roses rubs her the wrong way and she lets loose on him. “Although Thobile’s friends are happy for her and Lucky, her mother injects poison in their relationship and messes with Thobile’s head,” concedes Kertrice. “Moliehi keeps telling Thobile that Lucky isn’t up to her standards and what she feels isn’t true love but just a stupid phase she is going through.” Despite her best efforts, Thobile is broken down by her unrelenting mother and Moli gets what she wants: Lucky gone. Even when she puts her arm around Thobile to console her at the end of December, “It’s fake. Moli has her victory,” says Kertrice.
