Wiping the slate clean

Meikie rethinks forgiving John and their vow renewal after his mistress comes back into the picture.

-

Meikie (Harriet Manamela) understands that maintaining a healthy marriage requires a lot of work. She has cleared her busy schedule on Wednesday 19 December for a romantic candlelit dinner with her husband John (Afrika Tsoai) to discuss their upcoming vow renewal, but she walks into the restaurant to find a surprise: his exmistress Charity (Makgofe Moagi) walking right past her. “Meikie can’t believe her eyes! She immediately thinks that John and Charity have rekindled their fling,” says Harriet, whose character couldn’t be further from the truth. The ex-lovers really do run into each other by chance – they haven’t spoken since 2017 when they were caught sneaking around by Meikie. “Meikie reserves her comments despite being furious, choosing to sulk throughout dinner instead. Seeing Charity around John irritates Meikie so much that she considers calling off the vow renewal,” reveals the actress.

TURNING A BLIND EYE

While Meikie forgave John, promising to never bring up Charity’s name, she can’t help but feel insecure when they get home on Thursday 20 December. “Charity is much younger and carefree. She also fell in love with John during their affair, which angers Meikie,” explains Harriet. John still feels guilty for cheating on Meikie and he tries to reassure her that night that nothing is going on with Charity. “He understands the pain behind her emotions. Meikie was hurt and the trust was broken,” says Harriet. “She loves John and the thought of divorcing him would destroy their kids Leeto (Eric Macheru) and

Tbose’s (Cornet Mamabolo) lives. Forgiving John was difficult but it was right for their family. He convinces her that renewing the vows will bring the family closer.”

KISS & MAKE UP

Despite this hiccup, Meikie trusts her husband and continues with the ceremony on Wednesday 26 December. “It’s small and intimate. Their friends and neighbours celebrate with them,” says Harriet. The pair pour their hearts out while saying their vows and for the first time in a long while, “Their words are full of love and that reaffirms that they are meant for each other,” adds the actress. “John promises that he won’t make the same mistake twice.” Just remember that saying: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice… now you’ll suffer my wrath!
